Stanton, Iowa is believed to be the only place in the world that has both a coffee pot and coffee cup water tower. They were decorated in this style due to the Swedish influence of the town and to celebrate the fact that Virginia Christine, also known as “Mrs. Olson” of Folgers coffee commercials was its most famous resident. The coffee pot water tower was built in the 1970s and in 2000, they completed their new water tower, in the shape of a Swedish coffee cup. Interesting that this town is known as the “Little White City”, where every house is painted white.  Locals state that anytime a non-conformists left town on vacation, they would return to find their house painted white.

The water tower stands at 125 feet tall and can hold 40,000 gallons or 640,000 cups of coffee.The coffee cup water tower is even shorter at only 96 feet tall, but it has more capacity and can hold 150,000 gallons or 2,400,000 cups of coffee.  It was built at the end of the road where “Mrs. Olson” actually lived.
